October  5, 2013- Poughkeepsie, NY-  Family Services is excited to announce an excellent reason for men to don high heels: join us to attempt the challenge presented by the 3rd annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event, held at the Poughkeepsie Galleria Mall on Saturday, October 5th, from 11am to 1pm. The event, during which men will walk a whole mile wearing women’s high heeled shoes, promises to be an extraordinary way to raise awareness and funds for Family Services’ Crime Victims Assistance and Domestic Violence Service Programs.

Brian Doyle, Chief Executive Officer of Family Services, encouraging participation in the event, noted: “As Family Services provides a primary response team to sexual assault crises and domestic violence in Duchess County, we know how invaluable this program is to the community and to the victims of these traumatic crimes. This is yet another opportunity to drive home the enormous and lasting impact such violence has on its victims and the need to support them.

We are delighted to have former Senator Stephen Saland and his son, Jesse Saland, as our honorary co-chair of the event. We are also excited to partner with the Poughkeepsie Galleria, who will host our event, and Enterprise Rent-a-Car who serves as our main corporate sponsor”

Local non-profits, businesses, and individuals have also signed up to sponsor the event. Family Services hopes that the event will stimulate discussion in the Duchess County community about the prevention of sexual and domestic violence.
